This week has been super crazy, so here’s a quick vlog update!
Sometimes I want 5 minutes of peace. Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids so much it hurts. But sometimes I want 5 whole minutes all to myself. To drink a cup of coffee, to read a chapter of my book, or even just to use the bathroom by myself.
I always think of Mrs. Large when I want 5 minutes to myself. 5 Minutes’ Peace is a childhood favorite about a mother elephant trying to get 5 whole minutes to herself.
I never could understand why she’d want time away from her kids when I was younger, but now that I have littles myself I totally get her.
And the reality is sometimes I do get 5 minutes to myself, but I am not very intentional with it. So, I am trying to stop, put down my phone, and thoroughly enjoy those precious few minutes. Like, reading my Bible while they eat breakfast, drinking a cup of tea in a pretty cup, or even turning on music during my shower (no, I don’t get to finish my shower without the littles joining me), but those first couple of minutes, uh, seconds, are glorious).
We all need a moment of rest. And while we might not get those 5 minutes when we want them, we can have true rest. I love this verse – it speaks such life: “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30.
So, enjoy those 5 minutes when you can get them, Mamas. But remember, you can have the ultimate rest in Him – Praise Jesus for that!
Spring is in the air! And blood oranges are in season – YUM. I just could not resist that color. It’s gorgeous.
Combine that with the snow melting and the weather starting to warm up a couple of degrees and you have a reason for celebration! So in honor of impending spring, I created a cocktail. Here’s what you’ll need to help you usher in warm weather:
juice from 1/2 blood orange
1 shot lemon juice
1 shot vodka
sweetener to taste
splash of sparkling water
sprig of rosemary
Mix the juices together and muddle in a few rosemary leaves. Add vodka, water and sweetener. I used stevia, but you can very much taste it so if you don’t like stevia then substitute sugar or sweetener of your choice.
Garnish with rosemary and enjoy! COME ON, SPRING!
I have been using Beautycounter for a month now! Here are my thoughts on the products. First of all they smell SO GOOD – it doesn’t hurt your nose and it isn’t overpowering. Besides smelling amazing:
My skin is more hydrated (right is before, left is after):
My hair is significantly less frizzy:
Most importantly, I know that my whole family is using products that are clean and NOT messing with their endocrine systems. And that is priceless.
I’ve been using these products for about a month now, but here are my thoughts after two weeks:
Are you tired of paying out the nose for expensive “natural” soap? I was. Also, I checked out my hand soap on here and y’all… I am NOT ok with what I saw. So, here’s my handy tip:
2. add some Dr. Bronners (this one had the best reviews on EWG). I am just trying to finish up the one I had already.
I just add enough soap to cover the bottom of the bottle.
Here’s where it gets fun! Customize it with your favorite oil! I added thieves since we are neck deep in flu/cold season here and I want to boost our immune system wherever I can!
Fill with water, aaand you’re finished!
Look at all that glorious foam! And it smells AWESOME!
So, for the past 10(ish) years I have been trying to find natural products that work. I have used coconut oil, tallow, avocado oil, essential oils, baking soda and vinegar on my hair and skin to try and use the most natural thing for my body. But my results? Not always 100%. I could never find the right shampoo – it either dried my hair out, weighed it down, or just flat didn’t clean it. I can’t say I’ve been in love with my chemical-filled one either. It still dried out my hair and scalp, but did at least manage to clean my hair.
I stopped using face soap because it also dried out my skin, and my oils were doing a great job, but now that I live in a place with winter… my skin is especially dry – snow and wind don’t play nice. Here’s an untouched photo of my skin now – note the dry and chapped places.
So when a friend mentioned Beautycounter and what they believed – I jumped all over that. There are 1400 ingredients that they will NEVER use in their products. They are passionate about getting clean products into the hands of everyone. They intentionally formulate their products to not interfere with the endocrine system. I LOVED IT. So, I joined. Had a tried the products, nope. Did I jump in with both feet and buy a kit with everything my whole family would need and use? Yep.
Here are a few thoughts I had right after I ordered my products!
Here’s to hoping Beautycounter works!

Sometimes you find yourself part of a club you never wanted to join. You find yourself so sweetly and warmly welcomed in by women who have experienced the same grief that you now carry.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.””

Since it’s been 10 years since I posted, I thought I had better give you all an idea of where the heck I’ve been!
Since I last posted we have have had quite a few changes in our lives. My cute husband graduated from PA school!! Hooray!! I can’t even tell you what a load off our shoulders this is. We’ve worked so hard for the last 5 years to get to this point. It’s hard to believe we actually made it.
We sold our house in Houston and moved clear across country to Wisconsin. Yep, we loaded all our belongings into a trailer, shipped it and then loaded our two cars and our two kids and took three days to drive through the good old U.S. of A. CRAZY!
We have now both started new jobs, are in the process of buying a new house and adjusting to a new church, friends, and town. Needless to say, life has been a whirlwind.
Although we are missing our sweet friends and family back in Texas (SO MUCH), we are enjoying some new experiences here in WI!
I took the kids to see a “pumpkin patch” expecting it to be the piles of pre-picked pumpkins stacked on hay bales that we have in Texas. You guys, it was legit pumpkin patch – as in a field of pumpkins where you get to pick your own. SO fun. We came home with way more pumpkins than I had planned for since my littles kept finding the perfect pumpkins.
Want to see what’s in my latest Goodbeing box?! Ta-da! So many fun goodies.
So let’s start with the St. Tropica hair mask and work counter clockwise. After using this rich mask, my hair was so soft afterwards that it kept slipping out of my hair tie all day. This is awesome since my hair is really dry due to my thyroid issues. This gets two thumbs up from me, for sure.
Next, Pinup and Paramours solid perfume. It smells so amazing, however it just didn’t last on me. I have that trouble with most perfume, so if your skin is better at holding fragrances then give this a try.
Then we have the Derma e scrub. I really liked this – it didn’t feel harsh and my skin looked fresh and healthy afterwards. I don’t like to use these kinds of scrubs often because I have sensitive skin, so I have only used it once – but I will be using it again.
LipScience volumizer has taken the place of any kind of lipstick or chapstick in the mornings. It makes my lips just a bit pink and doesn’t feel tingly or taste weird. I am really, really enjoying this product.
Last, but certainly not least is the Province Apothecary eye serum. This is probably going to last me a lifetime. You only use the tiniest bit and mix it with a couple drops of water and then pat it around your eyes. I have liked using it, but haven’t been consistent enough to see a major change. Since I get so much sleep coffee and concealer I haven’t stopped to take a closer look at my eyes. Since sooner or later I will catch a good look, you better believe I am going to be continuing on with the eye serum. You know, cause these wrinkles, ahem, laugh lines aren’t disappearing on their own!
Cheers to another amazing, healthy GoodBeing box that helps me cope with my thirties!
I love a good cocktail. I especially am loving the handcrafted cocktail craze and thoroughly enjoy trying new and different flavor combinations. I love fresh and fruity and herbal cocktails made with fresh juice and real herbs. Which leads me to my latest recipe to share with you: the Ningxia Cocktail!
Liquid Stevia (sweeten to taste – I use about 6-8 drops)
Combine in your favorite glass and enjoy!
See what I mean about that color?!
So what does this cocktail do for you? It is full of vitamin c, can help balance blood sugar, and is good for you heart, skin, immune system, and eyes. Plus, its beautiful and yummy. Cheers!
